Presented below are relevant links and information regarding the three main employers of CEEs within the federal government: EPA, DOT and DOE.

EPA Regional Offices (EPA has 10 regional offices, each of which is responsible for execution of the Agency's programs within designated states and territories)

Main Technical Program Offices/Entities:

• Office of Air and Radiation - oversees the air and radiation protection activities of the Agency including national programs, technical policies, and regulations.

• Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances - develops national strategies for toxic substance control and promotes pollution prevention and the public's right to know about chemical risks.

• Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response - provides policy, guidance, and direction for the land disposal of hazardous wastes, underground storage tanks, solid waste management, encouragement of innovative technologies, source reduction of wastes and the Superfund Program.

• Office of Water - is responsible for the Agency's water quality activities including development of national programs, technical policies, and regulations relating to drinking water, water quality, ground water, pollution source standards, and the protection of wetlands, marine, and estuarine areas.

• Office of Research and Development - is responsible for the research and development needs of the Agency's operating programs and the conduct of an integrated research and development program for the Agency.

• Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina - major center for air pollution research and regulation.

• Laboratories and Research Centers - provides weblinks to the major laboratories and other organizations that conduct research and carry out scientific and technical activities within the various EPA programs.

Main Technical Program Offices/Entities:

• Federal Aviation Administration - responsible for the safety of civil aviation

• Federal Highway Administration - carries out the Federal highway program in partnership with the State and local agencies. 

• Federal Railroad Administration - responsible for railroad safety and national rail transportation policy

• Federal Transit Administration - supports locally planned and operated public mass transit systems

• Maritime Administration - deals with waterborne transportation, working in various areas involving ships and shipping, shipbuilding, port operations, vessel operations, national security, environment, and safety.

• Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration - responsible for protecting people and the environment from the risks inherent in transportation of hazardous materials by pipeline and other modes of transportation.

• Research and Innovative Technology Administration - coordinates DOT's research programs

• Volpe National Transportation Systems Center - charged with improving our Nation’s transportation system through research and development, engineering, and analysis

Main Technical Program Offices/Entities:

• Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management - manages and disposes of high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in a manner that protects health, safety and the environment; enhances national and energy security; and merits public confidence.

• Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability - leads national efforts to modernize the electric grid, enhance the security and reliability of the energy infrastructure, and facilitate recovery from disruptions to the energy supply.

• Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy - leads national efforts to develop and promote energy efficiency and renewable energy (wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, biofuels, etc.).

• Office of Environmental Management - mitigates the risks and hazards posed by the legacy of nuclear weapons production and research.

• Office of Fossil Energy - ensures that we can continue to rely on clean, affordable energy from our traditional fuel resources.

• Office of Legacy Management - manages the DOE’s post-closure responsibilities and ensures the future protection of human health and the environment.

• Office of Nuclear Energy - supports the nation’s diverse nuclear energy programs.

• Office of Science - single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the United States.

• National Laboratories and Technology Centers - provides weblinks to the National Labs and other technology centers that conduct research and carry out scientific and technical activities within the various DOE programs.
